Can't complete chmod

Asked by Edward B.

I downloaded Unetbootin on my Mini 9 running Dell's version of Ubuntu 8.04, but when I do "chmod +x ./unetbootin-linux," I get "no such file or directory"; same when I added "-471" to the end to make it conform to the actual name that appears on my desktop. What am I doing wrong?

Try changing your working directory to the location you downloaded the file to beforehand; if it's on your desktop "cd Desktop" should do the job. If you're completely unfamiliar with the command line, you can also right click the file, go to Properties, go to Permissions, and check "allow executing file" option.

And of course after making the file executable just double-click it to make it run.

I got as far as booting from the live USB, but then it says "cannot
mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on
//filesystem.squashfs."

Do you use Wubi (installation of Ubuntu inside Windows) ?

No, I was not using Wubi, this is an Ubuntu machine.

Anyway, I completed the installation after discarding Unetbootin.

Can you help with this problem?
