PPA at 1GiB

Asked by Fabien Tassin

Hi,

my PPA reached 1GiB today and I'd like to continue to work with it.

https://edge.launchpad.net/~fta/+archive

    * 40 source packages (327.2 MiB)
    * 273 binary packages (705.3 MiB)
    * Estimated archive size: 1.0 GiB

Would it be possible to obtain an extension ?
Thanks

Yes, it would. However, are you sure there is nothing in your archive that could be deleted?

This question was expired because it remained in the 'Needs information' state without activity for the last 15 days.

The question is more: do you want me to stop working on those huge mozilla packages using Launchpad ?
I'm already restraining myself a lot to not start packaging new stuff and I've already stopped doing gutsy debs for most of my existing (big) packages.

As for removing some of those existing packages, I can't obviously do that myself just yet, can I ? and I'm not sure I'll gain enough to stay below that 1G limit for long.

Just tell me. If it's not possible, I'll try to find another way to work.

No, by all means. Your PPA looks interesting!

You should work and not worry too much about the limit. It does raise
alarms and you might get notifications, but I'll make sure we don't
interrupt your service.

We want to start sharing origs with Ubuntu, and if we do that, we
wouldn't count the space for the shared origs. I'm not sure if that will
help or not in your case, though.

For the record, the package counter/size is accurate:

{{{
lp_publish@germanium:/srv/launchpad.net/ppa-archive$ du -hs fta/
1.2G fta/
}}}

We can simply grant more space to you PPA (via admin access) and the upload warning should cease.

I've set the limit to 2GB. Please let us know if this needs to be increased.

Thanks, Tom

Thank you. For now 2G seems ok. I'll re-open if needed.

BTW, i never doubted the size of my PPA. I'm just puzzled by the number of packages.

    * 123 source packages (312.7 MiB)
    * 1265 binary packages (945.0 MiB)
    * Estimated archive size: 1.2 GiB

123 and 1265 seems bogus to me.

Fabien,

Based on the fact that the size is calculated using the number of packages and the size is /right/, we can only conclude that the number of packages is right too.

Your ppa has only PUBLISHED or SUPERSEDED sources (you can check yourself via the search form) which means that either: all source packages are holden by sharing orig file with the current version (because the binaries are already gone) or we have a problem in our death-row algorithm.

Fabien, you are right about the inconsistency in the PPA package counters see the re-opened bug 141591.
