password: problem reading 2 words

Asked by tutoke

Since having problems with (untrusted) certificates on many sites, I also cannot access Ubuntu-One anymore. Previously this worked fine in an automatic way. Now the system askes to log in. I seem however to have forgotten the correct password. When asking assistance with password recovery, I have to type the 2 words which are supposed to be shown on my screed, HOWEVER I DO NOT SEE THOSE WORDS....What do do next?
Thanks a lot.

Hi, Do you see the icons next to the text input box requesting you to type in the two captcha words? The icon in the middle is one to play the audio of the words and then you can type them in. If you're not seeing these icons, then you may need to make sure you temporarily disable any plugins (like noscript) that are preventing your web browser from displaying the captcha widget.

Thank you,

Joshua

Good morning Joshua,

Thanks a lot. However, I still could not enter: I do not see these icons. On the other hand, when trying to manage the plugins, I observe:
1. an almost endless series of remarks that the issuer of the certificate is not trusted, which I can only bypass by accepting the 'annuleer' button, about two hundred times...
2. after that, it seems that none of these plugins is in use!
What else could I try?
Thank you beforehand.

Hi Hugo,

I'm not sure why you're getting all these certificate not trusted warnings. Can you make sure you have the ca-certificates package installed on your computer? You can do this by running the following in a terminal session (Applications->Accessories->Terminal): sudo apt-get install ca-certificates

If that command says the package is already installed, let me know. Otherwise, it will install the certificates and then you should restart your web browser to see if you still get the error.

Thank you,

Joshua

Hello Joshua,

Thanks again. I have run the command that you told me, but I get the message (I translate):
ca-certificates is reeds de nieuwste versie. (ca-certificates is already the latest version)
0 pakketten opgewaardeerd, 0 pakketten nieuw geïnstalleerd, 0 te verwijderen en 3 niet opgewaardeerd. (0 packets upgraded, 0 packets new installed, 0 to be removed and 3 not upgraded).
Is there any step left to try out?
I thank you again beforehand,

Hugo

Hi Hugo,

You have ca-certificates already then. I can't think of anything else to have you try. Do you get these certificate errors with other web sites? If so, you may want to ask at the Ubuntu forums for help: http://ubuntuforums.org

Thank you,

Joshua
