In 12.10 Beta1 with the above graphics card I only get resolution of 1024x768 instead of the expected 1920x1080.

I suggest you report a bug. Quantal is not ready and not stable so you will get issues. If you need a stable OS taht works then use Precise (12.04) if you are happy to put up with bugs and feature holes and want to help get the OS ready for release in October then by all mans use Quantal.

Have you tried using an xorg.conf file?
