Internal error 12.04

Asked by Dianne Reuby

Did a clean install of 12.04 about 10 days ago, and I'm getting frequent "internal error" messages. Sometimes it simply goes away when I choose to send report. Sometimes it just goes to full-screen "terminal" mode and I have to do a hard reboot.

My machine is quite old, Intel Celeron(R) D CPU 3.33GHz processor, ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics card which isn't recognised ("graphics unknown") but works OK otherwise. Ran from LiveCD several times with no problems.

Doesn't seem to relate to a particular program - if I choose the "show details" button on the error dialogue, it shows a lib file which relates to the program which has focus at the time of the error. It's happened on Chromium, Evolution, LibreOffice - but those are the programs I'm using most of the time.

Have you tested your RAM using the option in Grub?

Can't get GRUB to load using shift at start-up - is it installed automatically, or should I have installed it myself?

It installs by default, its what makes the OS load.

Forgot I had to get past that silly screen the manufacturer puts on! Yes - there is an error on my memory, only 2 years old, so I'll need to look at it and maybe replace it.

Thanks!
