Ubuntu 12.04 Post upgrade issues

Hi,

I upgraded my laptop to 12.04 a month back i have noticed the following issues:

1. Slow boot time
2.Slow shut down time
3.Shut down failure
4.Overall performance degradation(a mouse click takes longer to respond)

I did a bit of googling and found that issue 3 is because of a NVDIA driver, Is it fixed? if so please help me apply the fix.

Can we do some thing to optimise the performance?

My laptop details are as follows :

Processor : Intel® Pentium(R) CPU P6100 @ 2.00GHz × 2

Memory : 1.8 GiB

Maybe click on 'Bugs' and 'Answers' on top of this page and search with hw specs.
If you don't know which graphics card you have, enter in a terminal:
sudo lshw -C video

Have you tried booting live USB. Is it faster? I suggest a clean install, it gives a cleaner OS with fewer issues.

Hi,

I read about that in some sites but unfortunately that is not an option now.

Are there any start up applications whcih i can disable to speed up the booting process?

Could install preload, it can help. Also I suggest you test your RAM using memtest in Grub just to isolate that out. You could also run:

dmesg | less

and look for large gaps down the left hand side (Time in seconds since the kernel came up). May help isolate the issue

Either you've installed the wrong driver - nvidia driver for an Intel graphics card?
Or it's a hybrid system with Intel onboard and Nvidia?

Hi,

I have not installed any driver myself. It is auto-installed as a part of OS installation.

How to check if i have a hybrid graphics card or a intel card?

Well the obvious output of #2 says integrated Intel. Then why did you mention issues with Nvidia driver?
When you bought the laptop what did hardware details say? What does the handbook say or the BIOS?

Can you help with this problem?
