Screen locked at 640X480

Asked by kieran

My aging machine has only just been installed with 9.10.
At first it started with 1024x768 resolution, then dropped to 800x600 randomly.

Then I tried to fix it by following a suggestion to install Nvidia drivers (not recommended) - silly me.

Now the machine is only permitting 640x480 resolution or less.

Any ideas - none of the answers i have looked at seem to work.

have you tried going to system-preference-display and set to 1024x768 ?? i would go to software center and remove nvidia drivers first...

Thanks all, the problem has been solved.

I figured as the system was only a recent install, reinstall is the best. Seems to be fine now.

Thanks for your kind attention.
