Dell D600 with ATA Radeon 9000 Vidio Problem in 9.10

Loaded ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell D600 with an ATA Radeon 9000 vidio controler. When opening Firefox, update manager, and other windows the window has random lines across the window then freezes the hole system and requires a reboot. Is there and updated driver or a fix for this problem?

I have noticed that the window freezes when any of the Admin functions are use from the system.

It seems to happen when the system starts to ask for the password.

can you give the output of:

gedit /var/log/Xorg.0.log

The card is supported by the open driver which is part of a standard install.
