Mouse pointer flickers in any wine window, in logmein windows and over some web pages

Asked by heather michel

my mouse pointer flickers in any wine window, in logmein windows and over some web pages and in some windows (printer set up window... in the blank space).
I dont know why... Seems like this started after I tried installed wine... but maybe that is just a coincidence..

Ubuntu 9.04
wine 1.1.31
dell xps 410

Did you install WineHQ from their website via their instructions? If not that might be it. Or your graphics could be set to high for your card.

I beleive I did but I did it in stages when I had first gotten ubuntu... so I dont remember! Is there a way I can check? Honestley at this point I would love to completely uninstall Wine and start over but I dont know how and I dont want to make anything unstable...

Zach - I up-arrowed in terminal back as far as it would go (we installed a month ago) and never saw any terminal entries re: installing wine, so I must have followed the instructions on the wine website..

ONly other thing I can think of is that logmein had me install this java thing that hosed me for a bit... maybe I need to undo it somehow?? http://java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml#selfextracting
Firefox would just close when I tried to navigate away so I went into /home/me/java (where I installed the thing to. I did not have access to add any folders in the usr folder) and renamed the java folder..That got rid of the crashing firefox issue.. Now I use the lab install at https://secure.logmein.com/US/labs/ .
That was way too much useless info probably but the unstable cursor worries me...

ok well... I switched my graphics in appearance preferences to No effects and then back to normal... it rechecked the drivers and now my mousie seems to be doing much better. Still does it a little bit, but nothing that makes me think things are unstable. I will call this problem soved for now.

p.s. I have twin monitors... two monitors sharing the same desktop... one is a dell and one is an Acer monitor... Just an FYI.

ok problem is back... Mouse went to a big line in tuxpaint and then was an odd shape when I was trying to close out and reboot
Both monitors get lines of color across them on boot up and the right (dell) monitor is lines when the desktop first appears then is fine.. Not sure if that is related or not so I will throw it in there...
Mouse flickers when it gets on the left side of the firefox panel icon too...

Wine was installed ok but I do notice if I install a new program to see if it works sometimes the lines/bars accross a monitor at first boot up can be worse etc... So I uninstall said program..
dunno....

mouse flicker does not happen since I upgraded to 9.10. Calling problem solved since it is no longer a problem on the new distribution.
