Brother DCP J140W Scanner Not Found
Just installed a new printer/scanner: Brother DCP J140W
Printing works fine.
xsane and simple-scan can not see the scanner.
Following instructions on the Brother web site, I have
1. Installed the diver:
sudo dpkg -i --force-all brscan4-
2. http://
sudo vi /lib/udev/
ATTRS{idVendor}
3. Rebooted.
xsane says "no devices available"
simple-scane says "no scanners detected"
Same even if I sudo xsane or sudo simple-scan.
One post I saw suggested adding users to the 'lp' group. Tried that, with no success.
$ scanimage -L
No scanners were identified....
$ sudo sane-find-scanner
No USB scanners found....
But,
$ brscan-skey -L
DCP-J140W : brother4:bus4;dev1 : USB Not registered
If I then use this device in:
$ scanimage -d 'brother4:
The scan works.
Any idea what is going on here - why does scanimage but xsane & simple-scan do not?
How can they be made to work?
EDIT:
$ simple-scan 'brother4:
and
xsane 'brother4:
also work.
So I guess the question is: why can't xsane/simple-scan find the device without being told its name explicitly?
Thanks for any help.
