how do you get vlc player to open in fullscreen

I am running ubuntu 10.4 and want vlc to open with a fullscreen.

In VLC, go to Tools > Preferences, click on Video (on the left), check the box labeled "Fullscreen" (under Display), then click Save near the lower-right corner of the Preferences window.
