Problem with upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10

Asked by Danish

Hello everyone.

I am unable to upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10. Mid way through the upgrade system crashes everytime. I have tried almost all the help available on the ubuntu forums, but the problem is still there.
I have tried the partial upgrade but it also doesn't works.

Below I have pasted the log report. Any help would be very much appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi,

Please paste /var/log/syslog and /var/log/dpkg after next time upgrade fails.

And also try using terminal to upgrade.

use sudo do-release-upgrade

Thanks

Alternate approach -- may be easier in the long run instead of updating. Full backup and clean install.

It's usually better in the long run as you don't have old software, config files lying around to mess things up.

I agree.
You mean I should just format the hard drives and Install from a usb drive or cd, right?

Hello again!

Now everything has disappeared.
Its just a blank screen. Without the unity dash or anything.
When I turn on the system only the login screen appears, and once I log in there is just this blank screen.

Any help would be very very appreciated.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Danish for more information if necessary.
