Why no more manager-update icon in launcher when updates are available ?

Asked by Coeur Noir

Hello,

as of 16.04 ( unity ) available updates for the system are displayed through a notification on desktop.

This has at least 3 major drawbacks :
- one can easily miss that update notification,
- it does not trigger any tool for actually updating the system,
- only advanced users will have the right reaction.

So here are my 2 questions :
- why having dropped the former way, when update-manager icon appeared in launcher to notify for updating ?
- why make use of « notifications » which are probably the weakest point in Unity environment : no history, no "click-able", no configuration… ?

If you have a bug reported, you don't need a question too. Keep all discussions about the issue in one place.

okay I agree with you about keeping in one place…

…but then may anybody share any thought or idea or plans about it ?

If (new) users might miss their updates it's a security issue.
