Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-updates/main/binary-i386/Packages.bz2

Asked by Devasish Gupta

I'm using Ubuntu 10.4

When reloading packages the download stops suddenly and i get the following errors:

Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-updates/main/binary-i386/Packages.bz2 (this one stops at 4%)

Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-updates/universe/binary-i386/Packages.bz2
Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-updates/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.bz2
Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-updates/multiverse/binary-i386/Packages.bz2
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

The download doesn't progresses beyond that.

Help,

Devasish

Might be a net transient please retry...

If retry doesn't solve please select download from main site using the menu system→Administration→Software Sources

Hi Marco,

Still same problem.

The download stucks at 4% and it doesn't proceeds.

I've tried several different servers but same problem.

Also, while running updates from Update manager, I see the same problem, the download stops at certain point, everytime.

Like, this file:

W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic_2.6.32-22.36_i386.ded (stops at 14%)

Any solution?

My internet is running slow for the past 3 days.

I'm not using any proxy. It's cable internet with ethernet connection.

How come other files are downloaded properly but the not the mentioned ones?

Plus, I'm also seeing a weird problem, some sites are loading and some are not loading properly. The reload icon keeps on moving in some sites. I'm using firefox and other browsers are showing similar problems.

My IPV6 is disabled.

Could be an internet connection problem?

Try changing download server. Use System -> administration -> Software sources

Try switching to the main server, then run:

sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

Hi,

It;s not working,

http://archive.ubuntu.com lucid-updates/main Packages [246kB]

The above download stops at 45 everytime and it doesn;t proceeds.

Especially files downloading from "http://archive.ubuntu.com lucid-updates/main Packages" halts midway.

Plus, my internet connection is running slow. Some sites load and others don't Sites that load fully have the load icon still circling.

I reinstalled my Ubuntu frshly, the problem still persists.

I must talk to my ISP.

Thank you for your support.

I'll let you know once it's solved.

It's 4% not 45.

This download stops at 4%.

There are other files that have similar issues, download stops at certain point.
