New to Ubuntu: where to start...

I must admit I want too much at once but I get nothing.

I don't know where to start to study Linux.

Reading books makes me feel very silly, I ask questions I should not ask because I should start from the beginnings.

Where's this BEGINNINGS?

Just use the OS, as a user. Just run upgrades and so forth. just as you learned Windows trough use, just use the OS.
