Create a connection with a fixed IP address
The page on this subject "Create a connection with a fixed IP address" for 20.04 mentions in para 5. "Type in the IP Address and Gateway, as well as the appropriate Netmask." I wanted to do this for a IPv6 address for one of my computers.
The link to the documentation page is https:/
My first question is about Netmask, which is not shown on the relevant part of the Ubuntu 20.04 Settings page, where there is a box headed "Prefix". Should this replace the reference to Netmask?
The second question is about finding out the data to enter in the following:-
1 the Addresses boxes for IP address, Prefix, and Gateway,
2 the DNS box,
3 the Routes boxes for Address, Prefix, Gateway, and Metric.
I have tried to find them in the documentation and in askubuntu without success, and found lots of answers, but none that seemed to deal with my situation. So am asking if this could be added, or a reference given to some other source for a guide and explanation of how to obtain these pieces of information.
What I am looking for is a guide that I can use so I can follow the instructions in the documentation page and enter the information in the 9 boxes shown, including the tick-box at the bottom of the page labelled "Use this connection only for resources on its network".
