Install Ubuntu with separate home LVM partition on LUKS (like server install on d-i)

Asked by Jesse Jackson

I'd like to install Ubuntu with a separate /home LVM partition on LUKS (like I can in the graphical server install). It seems like this step should be in Ubiquity, especially for people who want to fresh install upgrades without having to go through a bunch of terminal commands to move their home to a separate partition.

See this question on Ask Ubuntu: http://askubuntu.com/questions/860421/desktop-install-separate-home-partition-lvm-on-luks-without-using-terminal

There is no graphical server. It's either the server install or the desktop install.

By graphical, I just meant that the server install is not a strictly cli process. Screenshot: http://ubuntuserverguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/1-Manual-Partition-Disk-Ubuntu-Server-.png

I suggest that you create a bug report (probably "wishlist" priority would be adequate), if you deem this necessary to be provided by the Ubuntu installer.

In any case as a workaround you could use the server installer for initial setup and partitioning, and then add the package ubuntu-desktop with its dependencies afterwards.

Hi Manfred. Thanks for responding to my post. I don't know exactly what you mean, but I clicked the "Create bug report" button below our conversation and submitted it.

Can you help with this problem?
