How to uninstall ubuntu?

Asked by Roderick McPhail

Hey guys,

I need to know how to uninstall Ubuntu. It is the ONLY operating system on my harddrive. It was a completely new and blank hard drive to begin with, never any other OS's on it. I installed Ubuntu on the hard drive using a USB stick and I think I installed it more than once because now when I am logging on I get 3 different choices for the OS before it boots up...two being the same Ubuntu OS's and one a little...different titled Ubuntu system. While I was loading Ubuntu from the USB stick I re-did something again and again when I don't think I should have. I don't know if I did anything wrong, but I want to completely uninstall Ubuntu and begin again...especially since I had...after the fact of installing Ubuntu...found some really helpful things on You Tube that I should do DURING the install process that really helps out later on. It was my first time installing an OS onto a hard drive so I didn't exactly know what I was doing. It was simple enough to install though, but because I'm showing 3 different choices at boot I think I want to start all over again just to make sure my Ubuntu OS is the way it should be. I really don't think I should be showing 3 different choices for OS's at boot. Regardless on whether I should or not I want to do an uninstall. The only help I see online for how to do an uninstall is if you have DUAL OS's and that's not me so that info doesn't help me.

How do I completely uninstall Ubuntu so I can start with a BLANK empty harddrive so I can re-install it?

Thanks in advance guys!

What do you see on GRUB? Do you see the following?

--- NORMAL

Ubuntu /// <--- OS
Ubuntu System <--- RECOVERY SEGMENT
System Setup <--- Machine Setup (BIOS)

--- "ABNORMAL" 'for some users'

Ubuntu
Xubuntu
Ubuntu System
Xubuntu System
System Setup

--- "Somehow, you had to divide by zero unless you checked to install alongside Ubuntu" 'Installing along side os instead of overwriting'

Ubuntu 16.04
Ubuntu 16.04
Ubuntu System
Ubuntu System
System Setup

--- Explanation ---

Ubuntu has a recovery system that shows up in Grub, the boot loader. If anything goes wrong, you could technically use it so leave it intact unless you know what you're doing.

The system setup is your BIOS from the laptop/computer, you can adjust any settings there for overclocking or OS setup.

If you only see those, then you're fine. Just use Ubuntu, the first auto selected line.

However. if you see the abnormal/I divided by zero case, then do the following.

--- SOLUTION ---

Plug your Ubuntu USB/Custom USB to the laptop, and redo the installation. Instead of selecting "install along os" select the "erase disk and install ubuntu option".

Click next and do the setup, and you're done! Don't worry about Ubuntu being freaky if this is your first time, its fairly normal to get scared, and I was in the beginning. I'm still learning and hopefully helping other people. (I'm still fairly new here)

So yeah, that should be all and don't be afraid to ask any questions!

The installer has an option to use the entire drive. This will destroy all data on the drive so be sure your backups are up to date before you begin.
You will then only have one OS on the system, Ubuntu.

Can you help with this problem?
