The partner repo is still a bit behind, If you remove the sun java you have you can use the self extracting file here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp?locale=en&host=www.java.com

And symlink the .so file to your browsers plugin directory

Thanks for the timely response! I'm really not sure how to remove the existing java. Then after reviewing the instructions for the updated version of java, I am unsure of how to use the proper commands to install and enable the new java from the terminal. Again, I would prefer to just uninstall the java 3.6.6, Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu, canonical-1.0 and stay with the version that was built with the system until such time that the partner repo catches up to the newer version of java. So if you can guide me on what to remove and where that would be really helpful. If that is not possible, I will need step by step instructions on how to carry out your suggestion. As I said before, I'm really new to Ubuntu and really don't understand the commands to use in the terminal. Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it!
