I installed ubuntu12.04 on older machine. How can i install downloaded software?

12.04 has reached the end of its life. 12=2012. This is 2018. Six years old.

You would be better with a more recent release.

I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Bionic. Bionic is LTS and supported until April 2023. It is prerelease presently but will be out in a few days or so
