Can I play m3u8 streams using Rhythmbox?

Asked by angus73

I would like to play an audio stream which comes in m3u8 format. vlc software is able to open it, but Rhythmbox cannot do it. It searches for some plugin and returns an error (missing plugin in GStreamer installation). How can I open it?

Thank you,
Andrea

Using Rhythmbox 0.12.8 on Ubuntu 10.04 x64

well, it is m3u8, indeed. I have found some related information at

http://askubuntu.com/questions/11508/how-do-i-play-m3u8-files

but nothing that points me to understand if it is possible to have it working in rhythmbox.

BTW, the stream that I can reproduce using vlc, but not with rhythmbox, is

http://radio24-lh.akamaihd.net/i/radio24_1@99307/master.m3u8

Thanks
A.

Just an FYI but Lucid desktop is EOL in April 2013. You may want to upgrade soon rather than wasting time on a near dead release. Once it goes EOL, there will be zero updates and zero support anywhere (including here and in the IRC channel for ubuntu).
