Important feature still not in place

Dynamic range compression is still not an option system-wide in Ubuntu. Without it, music sounds flat. I'm sure lots of people would love it if it was implemented. If you could do something simular to what's in VLC, it would be great.

Is there any reason why this could not be implemented soon? Pleeeze? :)

This was reported as a bug FIVE YEARS AGO - and still nothing has happened. See bug 414489. I figured this would be an additional way of getting your attention.

This part of Launchpad is for user to user support. It is not a way to get developer attention.

This looks promising (though I wouldn't hold my breath for pulseaudio to integrate it): https://www.bfccomputing.com/dynamic-range-compression-for-pulseaudio/

I personally use Audacious Crystalizer (also known as "Noise Sharpening") to enhance the audio. This effect is one of the few I've found that isn't some kind of glorifed equalizer or and amplifer that causes clipping/distortion.

Daniel, thank you SO VERY MUCH! That tip of using Audacious with Crystalizer was great, feel like I got all my music back from being taken hostage! :)
