connection problem with dsl

I always used sudo pppoeconf to set up my dsl connection it works fine but does not connect. I also tried the network manager and had no luck either. How come this is not a problem in window but linux upgade beyond 8.10 it becomes a problem. The programmers must address this problem if they expect people to use their new upgrades it is not an upgrade if old software work better than the new I am not alone in having this problem.
1. I just type pppoeconf enter my dsl ID
2. I just add my provider PASSWORD which they gave me
The Network manager is no help also the same information but in a different way
