yahoo massenger does not connect to the internet

Asked by wininda kith

I installed yahoo massenger successfully via wine. But it doesn't connect to the internet. I am using ubuntu7.04 Gnome. I used wine FAQ and to change the network configuration. Then even Firefox doesn't work. Then I reconfigure the settings. I am new to Ubuntu. So please help me to make this ok. Thank you very much for your valuable time that you spend for my problem.

If you want to keep in touch with you yahoo friends, you can use Pidgin to log in you yahoo messenger account.

There is a Yahoo Messenger for Linux available... http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Communications/Chat/Yahoo-Messenger-002.shtml

But Pidgin (included by default in Ubuntu) can do Yahoo IM just fine anyway.

There's a 'workaround' with Innotek, install XP there and install Y Messenger in Virtualbox - works fine - but it's a sledgehammer to kill a mosquito!

Pidgin doesn't have the functionality, and the linux Yahoo Messenger is hopelessly out of date. Isn't there a solution to this? isn't there a way to set up proxies or something?

Someone help please! It's not very effective to use an incompatible software. Right now I'm running Yahoo messenger in Virtualbox - but that's a rather heavy way of doing it - and the desktop compositing is rather untidy with 'seamless' windows.

What functionality does Pidgin lack? Video? If so, try Kopete.
