pidgin crashes when logging into YM

Asked by charis127

i'm trying to use both google talk and yahoo protocols on pidgin running on ubuntu gutsy.

google works fine all the time. but everytime i enable yahoo and start connectiing, pidgin crashes while my buddy list is loading. what seems to be the problem?

the settings for my yahoo options are:

Pager Server: scs.msg.yahoo.com
Japan page server: cs.yahoo.co.jp
Pager Port: 5050
File transfer port: 80

Regardless of whether I use "No proxy" or the "GNOME Proxy Settings" the results are the same.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Could you tell us a little more about the version of pidgin you're using?
Also, please make sure your system is up to date, you can do this by launching System->Administration->Update manager and click on check for updates.

Cheers,

Nicolas

The lastest version, 2.4.2, doesn't show any immediate fixes in the changelog or in closed tickets relating to Yahoo.
However, I managed to find:
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/6112
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/6073
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/5961
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/5889

I'm not sure if any of these reports apply to you. I would first try updating to the latest version* and see if that fixes the problem. I would then disable all plugins and see if the problem goes away and systematically enable each plugin, one at a time, until you know which caused the problem.

Otherwise, I would ask in the #pidgin channel on Freenode and see if they have any ideas on how to diagnose the problem.
