[Nautilus] Changing combined size when selecting multiple folders

Asked by brainbaobao

When selecting multiple folders with locations including japanese characters and opening the properties dialogue, combined size and number of files included fluctuate.

For example, the first second it shows "600 items, totalling 7 GB", the next shows "520 items, totalling 6.2 GB", and the next after that is different as well.

With the variety of folders I've tested, it only occurs when the selection includes japanese, chinese, or any other non-english characters. I wish I could tell you the encoding of the characters, but I'm not sure what nautilus does with locations.

Why is that? Is there any way of fixing this?

Thank you.

You can start the process by running:

ubuntu-bug nautilus

Have you tried other file managers to see if they do the same thing?

I just tried it with nemo.

Nemo displays the file size without issue, neither does windows explorer(not really useful, but might as well).

Can you help with this problem?
