LyX 2.2.0 for 16.04 LTS

Asked by Jalsti

I wondered if the current version 2.2.0 of LyX will make it into the long term support Ubuntu version, or if any company/university which requires LTS will have to stick to the obsolete version until 2021?

Thanks

I suggest you report a bug stating why it is obsolete and the package may be updated sooner rather than later.

The LyX website has PPAs you can add to get a newer version

You should not have to stick to 2.1 until 2021, because you should be able to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 in 2018, and that release will most probably contain a version >= 2.2.0

For the time being a workaround will be using one of the the PPAs of the Lyx devel team, see http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXOnUbuntu#toc3

Still over a year of incompatibility - and the workaround via other PPAs has unfortunately no use if you have no control over your environment (e.g. in companies/universities/…)
