AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D iGPU Support

Asked by Christopher Altmann

I am using the kernel 6.5.0-21-generic and when booting my system the screen halts. When I use kernel 5.15.0-97 the system boots properly but with the following:

Graphics:
  Device-1: AMD vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: N/A pcie: speed: 16 GT/s
    lanes: 16 bus-ID: 0f:00.0 chip-ID: 1002:164e class-ID: 0300
  Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.21.1.4 driver: X: loaded: ati,vesa
    unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,radeon gpu: N/A display-ID: :0 screens: 1
  Screen-1: 0 s-res: 3840x2160 s-dpi: 96 s-size: 1016x572mm (40.0x22.5")
    s-diag: 1166mm (45.9")
  Monitor-1: default res: 3840x2160 hz: 88 size: N/A
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 15.0.7 256 bits)
    v: 4.5 Mesa 23.2.1-1ubuntu3.1~22.04.2 direct render: Yes

So my guess is that the hardware of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is so new that the even the newest kernel doesn't support the iGPU (integrated graphics chip on the CPU). Here is the chip specification https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-9-7950x3d
