My ubuntu 20.04 freezes within some time after plugging in with charger

Asked by Abhas Abhirup

Important!
My Ubuntu 20.04 freezes after I plug in my charger. I have HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop and this issue has been popping since the last 4-5 months. I need a solution urgently. It's really tough to work in this environment.

Is there another operating system installed on that machine besides Ubuntu (e.g. a dual boot with Windows) - if yes, does the system show a similar behaviour also in the other OS?

How does that "freeze" look like - completely black screen, or the screen freezes with the currect image and does not change any more - any indicators blinking - any keys still working (e.g. power) - ...?

What is "within some time" - seconds, minutes, hours?

Do you see the same "freeze" also when you boot the system with the charger already plugged in?

Is there some kind of "HP built-in diagnostics" where you can test battery and charger?

I have dual boot with Windows, and similar things happen there too but in Windows, it is not only after I plug in my charger. It can happen anytime.

the screen freezes with the correct image and does not change anymore. Only the hard power off button works.

It freezes after a few minutes only.

Yes if I boot with charger plugged in too, it freezes after some time.

If the system freezes also in Windows, then it is very likely that this is not an Ubuntu problem.

Do you have the newest version of the BIOS?

Can you help with this problem?
