cannot acquire a wired network address
Asked by

After a couple of attempts to Install Ubnutu 8.40 on a Pentium III 800MHZ PC with 512 of ram, I cannot acquire address from the Router DHCP. I have one other Ubuntu8.10 and 3 other Windows machines on this router working fine. This problem PC with the same Intel Pro NIC card worked fine on this router when working on Windows 2000.
I have even downloaded another copy of 386 Ubuntu 8.04 and installed from that with the same results.
Active Connection Information shows;
Interface etho
100
Driver e100
IP address 0
Hardware address 00 0A C9 EA 6A 2D.
I can ping loopback but I cannot ping the router which is 6ft cable length away, probably because I do not have a network IP address.
I am stuck now.
