New version is considerably slower on all tasks

Asked by Ramaswami Venkateswaran

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 and the newest version of KmyMoney. This is now considerably slower than the first version which ran at blazing speed under Ubuntu 10.04. Any ideas on why it takes so much longer to load the same file and to save the file after modifications?

Ramaswamy, I've noticed the same thing when upgrading from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10. But I did not have any problems with performance under 11.04 so just now I have reverted back to 11.04.

One thing you could try that helped some with 11.10 performance is to reduce the amount of time processes/files use swap space. I was given the following instructions in another forum thread. You may want to try and see if if helps you.

from terminal enter:
 gksudo gedit /etc/sysctl.conf
add the line:
 vm.swappiness = 10
save the new file, close gedit then run:
 sudo sysctl -p

Thanks for the suggestion. I have followed it and shall report in a couple of days how this has improved the speed of useof KmyMoney. I noticed that the Gnu CAdh program does not seem to be affected by the new OS.

Phil,
I shall let you know on the forum whether this method has indeed spolved my
problem.

Thank you

 Ramaswami
   Thank you for the suggestion. I did the procedure as you described and I
shall see how this affects the speed of KmyMoney under Ubuntu 11.10.
