Cannot mute the audio aoutput with kmix

Asked by Uqbar

I'm not really sure whether the problem is in the KDE audio system or in the lower level drivers.
On another PC with the very same distribtion (32-bit) it works while on my first machine (64-bit) it doesn't.
I put here some system details. If more are needed, please ask.

Likely the wrong mixer control is being used; this symptom can be worked around.

Please execute the alsa-info.sh script referenced from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems and attach the URL here.
