After adding a package where does it go

Asked by John Rosing

In KUBUNTU, I have found a game package and using add/remove I installed it. Now I don't know where it is. It is not in the applications list. I downloaded and installed several other packages but I don't know where they are either?

All packages downloaded with synaptic or apt-get goes to the var/cache/apt/archives.Try type package name in terminal and see if that start application.

When I go to the terminal and enter the package name (ace-of-penguins) it answers "command not found"
When I enter "var/cache/apt/archives" it answers "No such file or directory"
When I combine the two separated with a "/" it answers "No such file or directory"

Places>computer>filesystem>var>cache>apt>archives if you want to see package.I searched game at http://www.delorie.com/store/ace/ .In terminal type ace and game should start.

I am not in UBUNTU, but in KUBUNTU.
My kickoff Application (in lower left corner) gives me the following tab choices:
Favorites, Applications, Computer, Recently Used, Leave
My computer tab gives me the following choices:
         System settings under Applications
Home, Network, Root, Trash (all under Places)
I can not do "Places>computer>filesystem>var>cache>apt>archives" because the above system is not the same as it is in UBUNTU

My "terminal" is in fact called a "Konsole"
when I type "ace" it answers with "Command not found"
when I enter "http://www.delorie.com/store/ace/" it answers "No such file or directory"

Last one.I don't use Kubuntu but did you search for game under applicationc>games?Try click on computer and there should be filesystem. From there look for var/cache/apt/archives.You can run in console

kate /var/cache/apt/archives

but in that case you will be able just to look and not work (delete for example).

I really need help from a KUBUNTU user. Even the help menus make recommendations that don't work or don't apply in KUBUNTU.

In Kubuntu (which I use), whenever a package I download "disappears", I got to file manager (Dolphin), select user, then BIN then scroll down to the application you downloaded.
The packages tend to end up there when not found where they're supposedly go. Click on it opens the program IF it's all ready to go.
