No volume icon in the panel bar

Asked by Ernesto Gutierrez

I just did a fresh install of kubuntu jaunty. I noticed that the panel does not have a volume icon like in Gnome. I do have sound though.

After reading online, it seems I need to run kmix to get the volume icon. I checked and kmix is already running (ps -ef), launching it again from the app launcher or terminal does not show me its GUI.

On the terminal running kmix returns control to the terminal with no error messages or GUI windows.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Thanks to xjjk in the #kubuntu channel, here is the answer to my problem:

I had removed the 'System Tray' widget from the panel. The volume icon resides in this widget.
