You may need to see it your machine is able to resolve us.archive.ubuntu.com i.e. can you ping us.archive.ubuntu.com?

Feisty reached its end-of-life on October 19, 2008 and is not available on the usual mirrors anymore. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GutsyUpgrades for how to upgrade from Feisty.

I looked at the forum, but i can't modify /etc/apt/sources.list. i can paste, but when i try to save it it says The document could not be saved, as it was not possible to write to file:///etc/apt/sources.list.
Check that you have write access to this file or that enough disk space is available. What is the next step?

/etc/apt/sources.list requires superuser privileges to edit, make sure your running your editor with sudo or equivalent eg gksudo or kdesu. If you don't know try entering sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list into a terminal it should let you edit and save it then.

Oh,

Your system is so out of date at this point the upgrade tool is not in
the archive anymore. There are two ways to proceed at this point.

1. Backup your data and install the latest version 8.10.
2. There is a way to upgrade in-place but, it may leave your system
unstable. You'd be getting 7.10 Gutsy which will end of life soon. If
you want to do this let me know.
