Let's try a different walkthrough then:

Hopefully this one will get you fixed up.
Post back with progress.

Just make sure you run the commands shown for 8.04...

Good Luck

Hello, I'm having a similar problem. I have followed several Walk through's to the T and now I'm getting aggravated. I have a HP DV2710us, I'm not new to linux but I don't know every thing. I have 2 problems. both relate to playing DVD's first problem is like the one alredy mentioned. I get a message saying "you don't have permission to play, or no disk" <well that's the gist of the message> The other problem is once I do get some play back it is distorted, fuzzy, the audio brakes up. I'm Using 64bit 8.04, I've tried: 32bit and 64 bit: 7.10, and 8.04 even went back to 7.04. So I need help... even followed this guide [url] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683 [url/]
Please I don't want to use windows... :( but if I have to in order to play a DVD that I've payed for then. Well. Also that's something that also gets me. You have to pay to watch the same DVD twice, once for the disk and again to watch it. some one needs to lobby Washington on that.
