Microsoft Trackball mouse

I'm started to use Ubuntu 7.04 and using also a Microsoft Trackball mouse.
My question is How do I change the characteristics of it? meaning where do I go to for instance program the five buttons on the mouse? etc, etc

I should also add that otherwise the mouse works fine!
