Deleted partition now in grub rescue but cant boot froom cd

Asked by craig stevenson

As the summary explains I was using ubuntu when i accidently tldeleted the partition. I am guessing it was holding the second stage of the bootloader. I have the disk i installed it with but the problem is the order of the boot list is hdd first then cd. I cant seem to get anywhere with the command line. I no this is a reacurring question but i cant find help in regards to loading without the cd. Can anyone give me a step by step guide. thanks.

Hi ,
you guessed correctly about the second stage of bootloader. By removing the partition now grub is unable to read the files that required to boot correctly.

You can boot into BIOS configuration page.. this is a pre-grub procedure.. so you will be able to do that. Keys to boot into BIOS usually are Del,F2,F10,F11 .. one of the of course not all of them . You have to know which key is the correct key for your PC.

Then during PC boot (instantly after you hit power on button) hold the correct key pressed and you can boot into BIOS and change the order and place CD first .

Thanks
