During the installation "Grub error 15" means that there are missing kernel-files. First i would check my install-disc with the entry in the grub-dialog when you boot from the live-cd. If that does you give any errors you'll have to reburn your install-disc else repost that we can help you further...

Actually i used a Alternate Install CD and checked it before I started the installation. I got the error in the end of the installation, does it mean that something in my computer doesn't work?

Its rather not your computer. Did you repartition your drive(s) after install or pluged in any new disc-devices during it? Try unplugging them first.

Else you can follow this guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1356854&postcount=6 to restore your grub.

hope it helps

I also get this problem. I installed Linux after Windows XP was installed. Grub boots either Linux or Windows XP. But if I boot Windows XP something in Windows XP writes to the MBR and ruins grub. I use a Linux install CD to repair grub (without reinstalling Linux) and all is well until I boot Windows XP. Then something in XP hoses the MBR.

This is a very common problem. There is someway to install grub without it being in the MBR -but Linux distros by default put it in the MBR. (I have no clue how a boot loader works if not in MBR. Found some references about stage 1-5 and stage 2-5) It's time for all distros to have a more robust default install location for grub -or figure out what in Windows keeps screwing with the MBR so we can kill it.

3 out of 4 computers in which I have installed Linux to dual boot with Windows XP had this problem. (Each time it was a different Linux distro over a span of 5 years.) On one computer the problem just went away after a few instances of grub restore. On another, I fiddled around and changed where grub was installed (Suse Linux allowed for this on install.) On this third time with the problem I find nothing that works. Super grub disk only manages to get me error 25 instead of error 15.

Windows XP and 98 on one hard drive (hd1), Linux on another hard drive (hd0)
