GRUB information

Asked by Iqbal

Good Morning,

How do I know, where GRUB is installed, i.e. in MBR or elsewhere.
In a dual boot system (Window and Linux), if GRUB is installed in boot sector (not in MBR) of Linux partition- first it is possible.
If yes, then in this case MBR would have Windows boot loader. The how will Linux be booted?

By default, grub is installed to the MBR, and this is the preferred installation type. If you install Windows first, then when you install Ubuntu, grub will replace the Windows MBR, and the grub menu will have an option to boot Windows.

Good Morning,
Phillip, it is OK. But it causes a problem. It does not let update windows (Vista) and SP2, therefore Windows gives problems.
If I install GRUB in Linux boot sector and Windows boot loader in MBR, then in this case how to boot in Linux.

Dowload Supergrub iso and burn it to a cd, boot from cd, follow the menu, it will search for any OS it can find. Make your pick and away you go. I choose the same, not to mess with my MBR, I boot from the Linux partition boot sector. Hope it helps!

Can you help with this problem?
