backporting 2.4.11 to ubuntu precise 12.04 LTS

I'm interested in learning more about how to get involved with backporting this project. Specifically I was planning to back port 2.4.11 to my installation of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I thought it would make sense to look into what it would take to do the work for the official back port that everyone can access.

I have been using Ubuntu since September 2012 and I previously used SUSE Linux for about a year. I have used Gnucash for my accounting work since 2008. I have never back ported a package and I don't code in C. I do know C# at an intermediate level and I'm learning Python.

It seems that there is a PPA with that version: https://launchpad.net/~n-muench/+archive/programs-ppa2?field.series_filter=precise
