In Ubuntu terminal: unable to input into a GNU APL preferences text file. Help?

Unable to uncomment a GNU APL "preferences" text file. Help? Lenux is new to me. I have some other questions concerning GNU APL, but first things first. Thanks.

If it is just a text file then use gedit.

It is Linux, not Lenux
