Wine does not execute a Windows XP app or return an error message

Asked by Julianloui

I am new to Wine 1.7, which I installed only recently in Ubuntu 12.04. Thus far I've been able to use it to run some simple Windows
XP applications. However, there is one it just ignores and returns no error messages. How can I start debugging such a problem?

Thanks.

Did you check the Wine Appdb for compatibility? Not all applications run under Wine. Some will not even install.

A quick Google search would have shown you but that's too hard for you so here is the link you need:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&sTitle=Browse%20Applications&sOrderBy=appName&bAscending=true

Andrew,

Thanks again. I realized that not very Windows XP appliaction can be executed by WIne. I was just wondering why Wine didn't return any errors when I attempted to use it to run CoffeeCup MP3 Rip & Burn. As a matter of fact, the vendor of this very useful Windows XP program of mine has just told me that he had nothing to gain by making his products compatible with Wine. I tend to sympathize with him.
