Asked by DaShawnBurse

I am a beginner and i really don't know anything about computers.
I would like to learn but i think Ubuntu is just a little to complicated
for me. I just want to do the basic stuff like email check facebook
and get music. Can anyone tell me how to remove this and get back to the basics?

You can do all the things you listed with the default install. The ability of updating does not impact your ability to use the installed applications and they will run as normal.

What is the full output of :

sudo apt-get update

Thanks

Did you cancel any download during the process as this may have an impact?

run from terminal: apt-get install synaptic or install it from ubuntu software center if you dont have it.then open synaptic, give root password and find packages software sources and software updater and reinstall it. plug in your connection, then run the recovery mode first update grub then do all the others. finally from terminal "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade".whanever you are in trouble use recovery options

Why is synaptic needed. The user needs to import a GPG key for a PPA. What will synaptic do?

Can you help with this problem?
