Yes, read and tried it. Just not that computer literate. I downloaded the
file and can see the file. Clicked it and extract but after that I'm lost.
Have tried typing tar -xzf rebol.tar gz in the command module and I get an
error message. Any help would be appreciated

What is the error message? How can we assist when you don't give us the actual error text?
Think about it

Opening a terminal window and entering tar.... I get:
jo@tjo-
tar (child): rebol.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tjo@tjo-
sorry but would like to learn this but it's all very new to me.

Posting error messages is not unique to Ubuntu. It is also used in Windows which I'd bet you would say you are versed with. ...
Where did you download the file to?

Actually have the console on Windows machine at home but would like it on
this one also.
After clicking the download from REBOL.com docs install the file comes up
in a list of files. I have clicked on the file and then click open. So I
have it downloaded but don't know the steps to get it installed

Read the instructions!
http://
tar -xzf rebol-core-
The page http://
"Here's an example: tar -xzf rebol.tar.gz"
You just typed the example command instead of correctly executing the "tar -xcf" command with the file name of you rebol tarball file.
In what directory did you put the file that you have downloaded?
What is its filename?

Here is the answer: http://
what I didn't know was my machine was running debian so the redhat load was
not working. Running the above package and Rebol is now in my apps with
python etc.

Just as an explanation: Ubuntu is based on Debian and uses the same format for packages. So whenever you have the choice between .rpm and .deb package files for installation, you have to select .deb format.
For completeness sake the link to the downloads: http://
If rebol is now working fine, and the problem has been resolved, please mark this question as solved.
