Dinesh,

I've seen the same thing. I switch my keyboard and mouse away from Ubuntu 10.10 server on a KVM switch, then if a few hours have passed when I return, I find Ubuntu has hung. I must then hard-reboot with the power button.

My info:
Host: Dell Optiplex GX-270
Memory: 1Gb
Processor: Pentium 4 CPU 2.26Ghz
Ubuntu release 10.10
Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22generic-pae
GNOME 2.32.0

There is an ongoing thread regarding different architectures incl. workarounds and bug report, e.g. installation of 'hibernate', trying a different kernel, unplug-replug usb keyboard, reboot via MagicSysRq.

In case it's a kernel issue consider to report a bug.
