Gnome Notification Bar Takes up 2 Rows

Asked by John Mclaren

I have an issue where the Gnome notification bar, with the menu, clock and notification area, takes up 2 rows, across the screen. The top row has the menu and everything expected, but the bottom row doesn't display anything; it just takes up screen space. I tried googling the issue, but no one has anything about it or I'm looking for the wrong thing.

It started doing this, after I transfered my installation to a new drive and was having issues with the new video card. Sometimes, when I'd log in, it would display 5 vertical rows. Next time, 3, then 6. Finally, I figured out I was using the wrong setting and it stopped, but now it constantly displays 1 useless row.

I am using ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome classic. Does anyone have any ideas?

Andrew, the link isn't exactly what I was looking for, but it had some information that helped me resolve the problem... so, you rock.

Somehow it got an extra panel added. I was able to delete the extra panel by holding Alt and right clicking on the EXTRA panel. Don't delete your main panel. That brought up the options menu, where I clicked Delete Panel.

Extra panel is now gone. Thanks!
