Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

I've got the same problem on a fresh installation of Lucid official release.

I've followed the solution by Rajinder but il doesn't fixed the problem.

In the solution by Leoquant I don't understand what to type in the terminal: this is meaningless: "gnome-panel. ==enter"

If I type only gnome-panel, I get this:

philippe@linux-ubuntu-bqf:~$ gnome-panel
Cannot register the panel shell: there is already one running.

Could anyone help me?

If I open a guest session then the applications buttons do appear in the bottom panel!

I've tried to reinstall gnome-panel and gnome-panel-data but this didn't changed anything.

I've found the solution here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=407350

Right click on the panel / select "Add to Panel" / "Windows List" then "Add".

Can you help with this problem?
