change font rendering default

Hi,

I know some people using Ubuntu and noone uses the current default font rendering but "best contrast". I was wondering whether this is a local phenomenom and if there's any statistical data about this / what mode you think people use most. If most people use "best contrast" I think it would be useful to change the default behavior.

I'm not sure whether this is the right place to start such a discussion...

As you allude at the end, this sounds more like a design discussion and decision than it does a question. Perhaps you should pose your suggestion on brainstorm.ubuntu.com or blueprints.launchpad.net?
