I see the msg: "broken pipe" on start-up....

Asked by James A

I can get to the desktop and open browser windows, but they usually start to flash with blank screens, making use very difficult. The flashing stops when I click on the FF icon, which shows all screens open in thumbnail. Also, the flashing stops when I right click on an icon (left panel). I just upgraded to ver. 12.04 and I'm using FF ver. 31.0 (canonical 1.0) Flashing usually is cleared up temporarily with reboot.

If you log in to the Ubuntu 2D session is it ok? I assume you are using Unity shell.

Thanks

Sorry, I don't know about 2D or Unity shell. Can you explain? Thanks   On 2014-08-14, <email address hidden> wrote: Your question #253063 on gdm in Ubuntu changed:

Before you login, click the Ubuntu logo near your username and select the 2D session. Then log in.

Ok, did that and the problem clears up until after I put the laptop to sleep and reopen it. The flashing starts with only keystrokes, then begins again for no apparent reason, all browser windows flashing white screens. So, a restart with 2D appears to be temporary, only lasting as long as the session is in use.     On 2014-08-14, <email address hidden> wrote: Your question #253063 on gdm in Ubuntu changed:
